Nun's Cross Farm was built in 1870 by John Hooper and lived there well into their 90s after which it fell into disrepair. It is now maintained by a local school and used for a range of outdoor activities.

The farm is now used as an adventure hostel for various activities on the wilds of Dartmoor

Nun''s Cross or to give it its original name Siward's Cross is one of the oldest crosses on Dartmoor (1240) at the junction of Abbots' Way and Monk's Path which linked the Abbeys at Buckfast, Tavistock and Buckland.

The first monastery at Buckfast was founded during the reign of King Cnut in 1018, and was Benedictine.

After the dissoluyion of the Abbey in 1882 some French monks, looking for a new home, came to live on the site and rebuilt the building ,which we see today.

Buckfast Abbey is home to a community of Benedictine Monks
