Mangersta Sea Stacks, Harris

A high point of the visit, his stone monument dates from around 2900BC. It is one of Scotlands most impressive monuments.

The major central stone is 4.8m above ground and estimated at 4.5 tonnes. It and the line of stone on its left are lying along the N/S meridian

All the stones are of local Lewisian Gneiss. There surfaces are highly and beautifully varied with many swirls and varied texture.

Besides the central circle there are lines of stones radiating out in different directions. The line of stones going into the distance points towards the site of the sunset at the two equinoxes
